Wood and Emma-Lee will grace Factory 163
By DONAL O’CONOR

A singer-songwriter evening with Royal Wood and Emma-Lee is Thursday at Factory 163.

Wood, who’s been compared with Ron Sexsmith and Rufus Wainwright for his brand of songwriting and performing, was nominated for Songwriter of the Year at this year’s Juno Awards.

Born and raised near Peterborough, Wood was in his teens already well-versed in many instruments — piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums, clarinet and trumpet. Writer, arranger, performer and producer, his albums have garnered critical acclaim with comparisons to Randy Newman, Jeff Buckley and Tom Waits.

Velvet voiced Emma-Lee won over critics with her debut album Never Just a Dream, a mix of pop, jazz, folk and blues. Her music is described as “old-time warmth and honest, confessional lyrics.”

Tickets are $30 at Foster’s Inn, Anything Grows, Long & McQuade, Filsinger Music, Totally Spoked, Turnbull & Stewart and Music in Sebringville.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the show at 8 p.m.
