What Inspires Creativity
When Meghan Maguire started her co-op at Factory163 she had a vision in mind. The Stratford Central student wanted to reach into the minds of Factory163’s artists, determining how the space functioned as each artist’s “creative sanctum.”
The Stratford Central student devised a long term project to do just that entitled “What Inspires Creativity.” Setting out to interview as many Factory163 members as possible in her semester-long co-op, Maguire enlisted the help of fellow Stratford Central co-op student Deondre Gooden to be the cameraman for this endeavor. The pair rented all of the equipment and lights from their film teacher. Set up for each shoot took about half an hour including setting up the lighting, testing the subject in the light and capturing stylized shoots of the artist’s work.
The grade 12 student interviewed artists in their own space, as is. The intent was not to have a staged interview but rather one that was raw and real. Answers were unscripted, working to delve into what each artist does and the creative inspiration behind their work.
Meghan’s plans to attend a joint degree-diploma program at York University and Sheridan College for motion graphics served as inspiration behind her project. Maguire is especially interested in the editing part of her video series. The majority of Maguire’s time is spent adding intros and outros, as well as adding in captions, descriptions, logos or any other relevant material.
