The Sama Kutra
Sizzle and Spark Fandango have been married forever. Desperate to restore the romance, the duo look to the ancient Sama Kutra. As Jacqueline Russell aka Sizzle Fandango puts it, the two are “magically whisked off to sama kutra hotel, learn the ancient secrets of love and passion and things explode and get very messy.”
Russell and Jed Tomlinson aka Spark Fandango began their Sizzle and Spark journey in 2013 at the Manitoulin Conservatory for Creation and Performance. In a Joey and Auguste workshop by John Turner and Michael Kennard (the famed Mump and Smoot) the pair put together a 15-minute piece that earned tears of laughter from their colleagues. This reaction encouraged Russell and Tomlinson to make a full length show out of that original piece.
The show, directed by Michael Kennard, promises a good time. The Sama Kutra has been performed more than 50 times over the last two years and Russell notes that, “It’s a different show every time we do it, which is the fun of clown.”
The piece materialized from the real life fears of Russell and Tomlinson. “Fears are the seed of our creative inspiration,” said Russell, “what’s the worst possible thing that could happen? Let’s do a show about that.”
Russell is looking forward to performing The Sama Kutra at Factory163 as the clown duo, “benefit[s] from having the audience nice and close because the conversation is easier to get going.”
This may be a clown show but it is not for kids! Check out the hilarity at Factory163 Friday, May 13 at 8pm, Saturday, May 14 at 10pm and Sunday, May 15 at 8pm.
