Rachel Champion
Rachel Champion’s passion in filmmaking began at a young age, jumping behind the camera as often as she could right from the start. As she puts it, “I have always enjoyed being behind the camera; never really in front of it.” The Sheridan College graduate would often film family trips as a child. Along with her twin Champion used to put together films starring their childhood toys. Champion notes that her and her twin were “very artistic people growing up.”
Champion’s inspiration runs deep. The filmmaker lists her all-time favourite director as JJ Abrams, “It is incredible what he can with the camera and even just being able to see what he can do behind the camera and seeing the magic come to life? It’s crazy.” Guillermo Del Toro comes a close second to Abrams, says Champion, “his films are beautiful…they are magnificent in their own way, and he has that unique touch to everything he does.” Champion has words of high praise for the directors, “they are magnificent in their own way…I would not mind getting a chance to work with both of these men, they are truly impeccable.”
The talented filmmaker has big dreams, and rightfully so. “I realized that film was my career choice once I hit high school. I always knew I wanted to be famous but I never thought it would be as a film director…I have so many ideas, I want to show everyone what I can do VISUALLY and show what my brain can come up with.” And what Champion can come up with is phenomenal. Her previous work is highlighted on her IMDB page and some of her work is available on her YouTube page.
The motivated Champion holds herself and her work to high standards, “I want my work to be something that is beloved and remarkable, remembered and loved by the fans of my movies…it is a high dream but I think I can manage it.” Champion also emphasizes the importance of improving with every day.
Champion’s next step will involve filmmaking for Factory163. Champion will be showcasing the Factory and the services provided. Her work will also provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at the unique creative space Factory163 house.
