Off The Wall Open House

Off The Wall Open House

On Friday, August 19 Off The Wall hosted an Open House at Factory163 to showcase the absolutely stunning Dracula set created by their Theatre Production Arts and Setting the Scene students.

Off The Wall, founded 11 years ago by Susan Starkweather and Ken Dubblestyne, holds a series of backstage production skills courses every summer to rave reviews. Courses cover a large variety of production arts from artistic welding to scenic painting to props and faux food. The Dracula set featured at the Open House featured pieces from all of these courses.

During the Open House, Off The Wall also holds a graduation ceremony for the students of their summer courses. Students proudly walked across the stage to receive their certificates in a variety of course types and lengths. Some students, lovingly called “repeat offenders”, have returned year after year to take more of Off The Wall’s fabulous courses. Some students have even taken every class offered by the studio!

The half scale set, designed by Steven Degenstein who also did the lighting and sound for the event, was truly impressive. Not a detail was missed, from the gargoyle sculptures atop the towers to the vines growing up the sides of the brick walls.

The Dracula set remains set up in Factory163 for passerby to admire the truly exquisite work by Off The Wall and their students.
