North and Beyond: painting exhibit at Factory 163

Victoria Lewis is pleased to present “North and Beyond: Exploring Common Ground,” an exhibition of her recent paintings at Factory163 on Friday, June 8, 4-8 p.m., and Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is Lewis’s second solo exhibition at the Corner Gallery on the ground floor of Factory163. Lewis was the first artist to hold a solo exhibition in Factory163′s newly renovated space in 2010.

The landscapes in this exhibition emerged from Lewis’s previous still life paintings, both bodies of work having been cobbled together as two-dimensional constructions originating from multiple objects and images that Lewis assembled on her studio table.

Essentially her method results in works that are fundamentally collaged images, seamless though the paintings now appear. Whether the scale of the work is four feet or five inches, Lewis’s voluminous clouds and active waters draw the viewer into spaces recalled perhaps from their own history.
