Springworks fest kicks off May 1

SpringWorks Festival is set to open Sunday, May 13 and run through Sunday, May 20.

Join award winning playwrights, choreographers, musicians, performers, visual and media artists at Factory163.

Hour long programming  throughout the festival includes: new works, readings, state-of-the-art contemporary dance, world class cabaret, cross-cultural and children’s theatre.

SpringWorks Festival 2012 opens on May 13 with a Gala Cabaret and Dinner at The Church Restaurant. Enjoy a circus-themed menu and the high-flying Aerial Angels display of silks, hoops and acrobatics. Funds raised from this event support the future of the festival.

Gala tickets are $75-$35 for the show, paid in advance, and $40 for the dinner, paid that night.

From May 14-20, SpringWorks will host 21 different local and touring theatre companies in 33 performances. Local visual artists will also exhibit in this seven day  fringe-style arts festival.

Some of the works to be included in SpringWorks include: New Harlem Production’s Give It Up, written by Donna Michelle St. Bernard, a nominee for this year’s Governor General’s Award for English Language Drama; a reading of local artist Britta Johnson’s newest musical Life After; Forgiving Peter Pan, Marion Adler’s new one woman adaptation of this classic tale; Fallen: stories of Old Testament bad girls told in aerial silks by the Aerial Angels, and many more.

Show tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children (12 and under). Save $5 per ticket when you purchase tickets for three or more SpringWorks performances.

Tickets are available at Rkilts on York Street, at the door on show days, if available, and at www.springworksfestival.ca.

On the Monday and Tuesday, schools from across the county will participate in hands-on workshops with professional artists supported by the Foundation for Education, the Avon Maitland District School Board and Perth County.
