Chamber concert series set to begin second season

InnerChamber will open its second season of chamber music concerts Oct. 30 with the program With Love: In Sickness and In Health at Factory 163.

The evening features the Factory Arts String Quartet, which is comprised of InnerChamber artistic director Andrew Chung on violin, violinist Julie Baumgartel, cellist Ben Bolt-Martin and Joshua Greenlaw on viola.

The group will perform Janacek’s String Quartet No. 2 (1928) titled Intimate Letters, along with Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 132.

Stratford Shakespeare Festival company actor Irene Poole will read from the love letters that reveal the inspiration for Janacek’s masterpiece.

Janacek composed the String Quartet No. 2 in the last year of his life as a tribute to his intense love for Kamila Stosslova. The unrequited romance resulted in more than 700 letters to Stosslova.

Full of urgency and the melodic patterns of his native Moravian tongue, it is an entirely original masterwork.

The cornerstone of Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 132 is the central movement: the Heiliger Dankesang. The 15-minute musical ode of thanks by Beethoven marked his recovery from a near-death illness.

As with all InnerChamber events, dinner is included in the ticket price of $39 for all advanced purchased tickets. Student tickets are $25. These must be booked by the end of Oct. 28.

The concert will be catered by MeMe’s Cafe and Food Shop. Food is provided from 6 p.m., followed by the music at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets are available at www.inner-chamber.caor in person at Anything Grows and Fanfare Books. Concert-only tickets are available on the evening of the show at the same price.

Factory 163 is located at 163 King St. in Stratford.
